Digital Experience Forum

The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium are six Museums that conserve, study and protect a legacy of more than 20,000 works. The collection of masterpieces from the 15th to 21st centuries, from the Flemish Primitives to contemporary art, offers a narrative of our history through painting, sculpture and drawings, but also photography and video.

Digital media have brought far-reaching changes to the museology of art, and represent a field the RMFAB wish to pioneer. Following several successful projects, such as Bruegel. Unseen Masterpieces in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, they are continuing with a “Digital Experience”, to be installed this time in the Forum, at the heart of the Museums.

Four touchscreens present the collections through high quality photographs and commentaries written by the Museums’ professional staff. This “Digital Experience” will continue to expand with new works, videos and archive documents.

The use of touchscreens is a first step towards “KunstMétrod’Art”, a project that will reach its peak in October 2020. These projects are led by Become a Friend, the cultural mediation service and the Digital Museum department.
