For the fourth edition, the conservators of the Modern Art department have chosen paintings of the Belgian expressionist key figures in the RMA collection: Constant Permeke, Frits Van den Berghe and Gustave De Smet.
Besides, artists as Rik Wouters or Jakob Smits, who do not belong to the official canon, are represented. At the end one can discover paintings by the young heirs of expressionism who after 1945 honored the absolute freedom of the gesture of painting.
