The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels present a focus exhibition on Gustave Courbet and Belgium, devoted to the receipt of Courbet’s work in the country during the years 1850, 1860 and 1870.
This focus exhibition is structured around the six paintings of Courbet from our own museum collection. These exquisite landscapes and portraits are confronted with a selection of paintings by other Belgian Realistic artists and supplemented by some interesting loans. The exhibition contains about twenty paintings, drawings and other graphic documents.
The purpose is unedited. It brings to light the travels of Courbet to Belgium and his participation to the Salons and exhibitions of the Belgian artistic circles. It also investigates his impact on the young artists and art critics, as well as his fortune nearby the collectors and art dealers of the country.
